Belltower uses a tension of simultaneous rising and falling Shepard tones, pitched closely in frequency to create a phasing between consonance and dissonance as the listener moves around the room. The sound, modeled after synthesis techniques to mimic a churchbell, is caught in suspended animation, at once static and full of subtle movement. The sound of a bell traditionally marks the passing of time, celebration, warning, communication, and community–what is voiced when the sound of a bell is caught between peals and clangor?
