Language Games, 2025
Listening Event
1.1 Sound System (2 mono speakers)

Created specifically for a performance event at W.I.H.S.H. Projects, Language Games set itself in dialogue with the poets who read earlier in the evening. Using found texts, synthetically generated voice, and archival recordings of sound poet Henri Chopin, the piece moved between comprehensibility and noise, language and concrete sounds.

The listening event used the domestic architecture of the basement gallery to provide two monaural listening zones–one speaker was set on the ground at the far end of the space, while the other was placed on a stand facing into a small alcove. Structurally, the piece carefully exploited these two listening zones, phasing between split mono sounds with each speaker playing separately and panning slowly between the two speakers, encouraging the listener to navigate the space and become attuned to the structure of their surroundings.
